Plachie de peste (Fish meal)
This is another meal typical for the Danube Delta. Whoever likes fish shouldn’t miss this. This is considered a main dish in Romania.
Ingredients:
· 2.2 lb/ 1kg fish
· 7 oz/ 200 g onion
· 1 parsley bunch
· salt
· ground pepper
· tomatoes paste or squashed tomatoes
· ˝ cup oil
· 1 teacup water
Directions:
1. Properly wash and cut the fish into pieces.
2. Fry it in oil.
3. Remove the fish from the fire.
4. Cut the onion into thin round pieces and stew it until it becomes golden.
5. Make a sauce out of the tomatoes paste, 1 teacup water, salt and pepper.
6. Put the fish on top of this sauce in a pot and begin to boil just for a little time.
7. Chop the parsley and sprinkle on top.
Have it with “mamaliga” (corn porridge) or country made bread but don’t forget about the wine. It should be a white wine. Try the great “Grasa de Cotnari” and you won’t regret it.
