Chiftele (Meatballs) Recipe
Chiftele can be had as a main dish or as an appetizer in Romania.
Ingredients:
1.1 lb/ 500 g pork
1.1 lb/ 500 g finely chopped onions
6 slices white bread
1 garlic
½ cup/ 100 ml oil
2 eggs
1 bunch parsley
1 bunch dill
salt and ground pepper according to your heart’s desire
flour
Directions:
Use the meat grinder to mince the pork.
Stew the onion until it becomes translucent.
Soak the 6 slices of bread into water and properly squeeze them
Pound the garlic.
Chop the parsley and the dill.
Mix the ground pork, stewed onion, the bread that is crumbled, the eggs and the rest of the ingredients. Knead the mixture well.
Then, take a bit of this mixture at a time, by using a tablespoon and try to shape it in your hands into spherical or elliptical balls.
Sprinkle every meatball with flour on each part.
Fry the meatballs in oil.
The meatballs are very good both warm and cold. Have it with potatoes puree and pickles. You can even have it with tomatoes salsa by dipping it into the marinated sauce.
